I tried using the filtered fridge water for coffee, but didn't taste much difference so quit doing it because it took much longer to fill the pot, but perhaps I should just keep a pitcher of it in the fridge to use for coffee and cooking.

I have a GE refrigerator that came with the house and have had it for almost 8 years. I never knew that there is a water filter in the fridge. Where is it?
