Finally saw this the other night and I agree, it was very tongue-in-cheek, like most of Tarantino's movies! I could have lived without the EXTREME graphicness of the shoot-ups as I didn't see how it added anything but that's to be expected from his movies. The rest of the violence was, I thought, essential to the film in order to portray the absolute horror of what was done to the slaves- absolutely inhuman, appalling. The performances were amazing- casting was inspired, I never would have pictured Dicaprio in that role but he pulled it off. The 2 hours and 45 min flew by! I'm liking Tarantino's "underdog gets revenge" theme of late. Wonder who's next?
