I can't speak for championship courses, but executive course do not assess penalty points for rain cancellations ... if you call the shack. If you just don't show up, you will be assesed 3 points. I run a neighborhood group and follow their point totals quite closely and know this to be true. It need not even be raining when you cancel. If it has rained and is still threatening to rain more, they are quite forgiving. You will still be assessed a single point as if you played, but that's all.

As to what people do in the rain around here, most do not play (based on observations of the exec course behind our house), but you see a few diehards that will golf in any weather - including with lightning striking all around.
