No mistake. The car came from the far end of the row, with a clear shot of me reversing into the parking space. They were aware of where I was going, and I could see them coming. All the more reason for my disbelief when they simply drove around me, just as shown in the clip from Fried Green Tomatoes, shown in the thread above. However, I did not wreck their car, nor (reluctantly) let the air out of their tires.
