My left hip was replaced by Berger at Midwest Orthopedics at Rush. He's the rock star doc...his waiting room is filled with suitcases from patients who flew in. Why? He's designed many of the hips used as replacement...he does the replacement with about a 3 inch incision...you are in at 6 am..in surgery at 7...climbing stairs by 1 pm and released to go home by 5 pm or 6 pm....out of state patients usually stayed in Chicago for 3 - 4 days. Limited insurance options...when he did my hip...it was just BC/BS Standard PPO. Many people paid cash for his fee and used insurance for the other docs and the hospital. A small incision...limited time in the hospital result in less chance for complications, or a long recovery and/or getting an infection.
