My dear aunt guided me when I was a teen on this very subject. She showed me a plate and said it should be "colorful" and that 3/4s of it should be filled with fruit or vegetables and 1/4 with protein and if I grew up and married and cooked like that, my family would be healthy.
She grew to be old and survived cancer and made Uncle Oscar a happy man. Thank you Aunt Elise.
And senior. I am loving your recipes.

Aunt Elise was a wise woman , as were you to listen to and follow her teachings. This is what I mean with regard to those who came before us who really did know how to feed their families in a healthy manner.
It isn't something "just invented"........it really isn't anything new.
Aunt Elise knew it. Our adult kids today know it.
That said, it WAS PRIOR TO PROCESSED FOODS.
Even the uneducated immigrants in my background surely knew about vegetables and fruits, beans and grains.....and seafood and meat used sparingly or on special occasions. They all lived long long long lives with no cancer. They enjoyed their cheeses but no butter.
Plus enjoyed their home made red wine. They were jolly, not uptight people. They were family oriented which does make a big difference.
Eating with a family unit adds to the pleasure. Sharing recipes , ditto.
