The debunking by Johns Hopkins
In some ways, the debunking by Johns Hopkins is almost as bad as the email hoax, as far as being misleading. For example, they say that cancer is a genetic disease and quickly explain that it can be a genetic mutation caused by environment, diet and smoking. So, in fact, for the most part, the root cause is not genetic. The root cause is the environment, which, for the most part, involves one's lifestyle. The CDC estimates that only about 2 to 5% of cancer is caused solely by genes.
For the most part, genes by themselves don't cause disease. Do you think there's a cancer gene just sitting there in your body waiting for you to turn 65 or 75 so it can give you cancer? Genes need to be turned on in some way. And, for the most part, we turn them on through our lifestyle.
When it comes time to protect their turf, I think doctors often overreact. And that's why they want you to think that cancer is a "genetic disease".
Why didn't they call it a "lifestyle disease" and then explain that only 2 to 5% of cancers are caused solely by genes?
P.S. I found "Agency for Toxic Substances & Disease Registry (ATSDR)"
Search: ATSDR - Cancer and the Environment - What causes cancer?
ATSDR must be a division of CDC because if you scroll all the way down you will find an address and phone number for the CDC.
