Curse of the billy goat on the Cubs
In 1945 (the last time the Cubs made it to the World Series), Billy Sianis, then owner of Chicago's Billy Goat Tavern, wanted to bring his goat with him into Wrigley Field to watch a World Series game against the Detroit Tigers. The ushers would not let the goat into Wrigley Field and P.K. Wrigley, then owner of the Cubs, upheld the ban on the goat's admission. Billy Sianis then put a "curse" on the Cubs for not allowing his goat entry into Wrigley Field. From the web site of the Billy Goat Tavern, the curse is as follows: "The Cubs ain't gonna win no more. The Cubs will never win a World Series so long as the goat is not allowed in Wrigley Field."
Over the years the curse of the billy goat has been credited by some people as the reason for the Cubs' lack of success in getting to the World Series. It makes for an interesting story.
