The best way I know to describe it is that it is similar to a giant Venus fly trap. There are many varieties. Some grow in the soil and the pitchers grow upward. Mine is in a hanging basket and the pitchers droop down from a leaf and arch upward to catch rain water and insects. Right now my plant is happily digesting love bugs.

Sounds cool!! I take it, you have to bring plant in, during cold months? Maybe they can come up with a "Pitcher of Beer Plant"??
