I experienced a similar situation while living in California. I lived in an appartment building and a single woman in the next appartment died while watching TV. It was about 3 or 4 days before anyone noticed. Eventually, the manager opened the door with her key. The woman was found sitting up in her chair and the TV was still on. It was very sad to think that she didn't have anyone to check on her.
It took a long time for the removal of the body. I asked the manager what was taking so long. She said, "when a person is found sitting up and rigor mortis sets in, they have to cut the limbs to straighten them out before removing the body." That was 43 years ago.
Be a good friend and do whatever you can to keep her busy. Plan on doing things together to take her mind off of what happened.
