Not wanting an Asian place is not because of race nor bigotry. I've been told several times over the years it's because many of these salons get beautiful, fast, cheaper results by using dental acrylic. But:

What is MMA? I’m sure you’re wondering. MMA stands for methyl methacrylate and it’s a common ingredient in far too many acrylic nail salons. It is often referred to as ‘dental acrylic’ or ‘porcelain nails’.
MMA is used safely to make resins, plastics and plastic dentures.
MMA nail enhancements are incredibly strong but it’s not safe for use on soft nail tissue. In 1974 the American Food and Drug Administration declared it to be a Poisonous and harmful substance when used on fingernails.
There are no Canadian Regulations pertaining to the use of MMA, which is why many salons are still using this extremely inexpensive product......."
