Currently I have the Skycaddie SG5 and I do like it. But I would eventually like to get away from the $30 yearly fee and the 18 course limit. Over the last year I have twice used a demo Golf Buddy Platinum II and done a side by side comparison. I did find that the screen on my Skycaddie was easier to see and the Golf Buddy would go into a battery saver mode after a few seconds. That was annoying to have to keep touching that screen to see the distances. During Golffest I did chat with the Golf Buddy rep and told him the only thing keeping me from changing was that battery saver function. At least if I could change the setting on it to a higher option that would be fine. For now I plan on staying with the Skycaddie for a bit more.
There are demo units at the various country clubs that you can sign out and try. From time to time Golf Buddy and Skycaddie have announced demo days at the courses with displays and reps to talk to.
