You have lived in many southern states and you really think so. I don't.
I can remember not too long ago (1967 when the supreme court ruled) that it was illegal for people to marry outside their own race in 17 states. It took the supreme court ruling to change things.
At the time I was in high school in Florida (boarding school) and I remember how hot an issue it was there. I was from the North east and didn't understand what all the fuss was about. The headmistress told me I didn't understand because I was a liberal Yankee and couldn't understand proper Christian values.
The law may catch up with the real world but people take a lot longer.
