I worked in a prison doing mental health and attended a seminar in which I learned about antisocial personality disorder, which is a pervasive disregard for others, not treatable to any extent.
I wouldn't want to be a (low-paid) correctional officer risking my life to give that inmate a second chance. Not to mention being another inmate vulnerable to him if he were allowed in population.
Pity is misplaced on antisocial personalities, it tells them that you are a sap over whom they might find an advantage.
