taboo for Napoleon to move into the King and Queen's palace at Versailles especially since he was trying to sell a certain amount of democracy in Napoleonic France. It would have been a
social faux pas. He could still have some
swash by putting up a new palace to rival the one of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. There was still the threat of the social
dropsy where all the power settles in a certain limb. Here, of course, it was with the army of Napoleon.
