Shifting sand and shifting earth makes the water main break it lay there hundreds of years if it is on solid ground when the ground starts Moving and there is nothing to support the pipe because of the sinkhole developing the water main breaks. Yes there was a water main break but it was caused because of a very large sinkhole that could no longer support the pipe. You have to ask why things happen ! So you know it is a FACT there is a sinkhole there? Or are you simply surmising. Remember a couple of years ago the island supporting part of the Morse bridge was sinking and causing the roadway to develop a large hump where it met the main landmass. They drilled cores all over the roadway to try to determine the cause. If there was a void there, it would have been discovered.
Second, you don't repair a sinkhole by pouring sand into it.
