BEST restaurant by far is Mrs Wilkes. Only open Mon- Fri 11-2pm No reservations accepted Line starts forming outside the restaurant around 10 am. Doors open promptly at 11am. When you walk in, you wil sit at a table for ten. Food is family style, no menu. Food is southern style and is great. It's pay one price and cash only. (Avoid Paula Deans restaurant....The Lady and Sons.)

For breakfast, try Huey's on River Street. New Orleans menu with great beignets, creole omelettes, cajun gumbo, in addition to the regular items.

If you like oysters on the half shell, go to Fiddler's Crab House on River Street. Really fresh. The rest of their menu is pretty good, too.
