Airplane Maintenance Crews/No Bombs Needed
Is anyone familiar with the outsourcing of airplane maintenance around the world?
With regard to our government's announcement of the current threat, which does seem primarily to be centered around our embassies in the Middle East and in West Africa, possibly such as what happened in Bengazi or at other embassies in the past........yet still, air travel is a major concern and is being addressed.
I was just thinking that actually no bomb is necessary if someone, perhaps a mechanic in a foreign land, with an agenda, tampered with the inner workings of an airplane they were doing maintenance on.........
Such as tampering with the computerized system, the fuel lines, the electrical or even mechanical components such as landing gear.....whatever else is the "guts" of the airplane.......
Remember our recent airplane mishaps in both San Francisco and at LaGuardia in New York........whether pilot error or mechanical difficulties, anything can happen.........one doesn't necessarily need a bomb.
Years ago I read that our airplanes are maintained by mechanics in places like Malaysia, Singapore, etc., etc. etc. Don't recall if it was 60 Minutes but they mentioned how easy it would be to tamper with an airplane.
What about all these sleeper cells (or wannabe's such as the Boston brothers.......) Better safe than sorry..........however, it seems to me that it is pretty difficult to be totally safe.
Ten days after 911 we had to fly to Colorado for a wedding. Half of the guest list chose not to fly and did not attend. People's nerves were on edge. Albany airport was empty. Chicago, the busiest airport, was like a GHOST TOWN.........one other family was also there. They said they had no choice but to fly.
We all sat facing the glass window looking out at the guys servicing the planes.........anyone of them could have tampered with the airplane.
However, once we got onboard......this is ten days after 911 on American Airlines......it was the crew that was the most nervous and kept looking over their shoulders and just jittery in general. Return trip was about the same. Empty airports.....nervous folks.
Everyone stay safe no matter where you travel this month of August.
