Can anyone advise what might be causing it or recommend where I can take it because where I did take it I no longer have good feelings about their ability to repair a golf cart.
If you Google "golf cart backfiring", you will find descriptions of the most likely causes. When the throttle plate in the carb does not close completely, gas continues to enter the engine and a backfire occurs. A good mechanic should be able to fix this with adjustments if you have a new carb. Most gas carts do not have fuel injection and do not backfire.
