Rarely does the cart require a new carburetor, a backfire is an adjustment most of the time. Battery wasn't your cause either
In the case of the person who changed the clutch, it was that the clutch was worn and it allowed the motor to get into the Rev limiter thus causing the backfire. Most of the time however, it is not the clutch- but a simple adjustment.
You didn't mention brand of cart, but that too can play into how the backfire is repaired.
