There's different kind of grass down here; there's different kinds of landscaping; the temperature swings are different. It will definitely not be what you are used to if you live up north somewhere.
One July we came down to visit for a couple of weeks specifically to decide if we could stand the summer heat or not. Maybe you should try renting for a while in the summer to get an idea.

CFrance is spot on about renting for a couple of weeks (or longer if you can do so) in the summer to see how you and your wife do in the central Florida summer weather. I have rented a few times in TV in the summer just for that reason, and I did just fine. I would rather have Florida's heat and humidity and AC in the summer than have to drive through snow and ice from December through March. Just this wannabee's two cents.
