I've worked with Old Republic warranties in the past and found them to be pretty good. They replaced two water heaters with no issues or hassles. The service people they used were knowledgeable and prompt. Of course, the homeowner was charged a flat fee of $75.00 for these repairs.
Have had no experience with American Home Shield, so have no comments.
Another warranty company to consider is Broward for appliances. However, I'm not too thrilled with Broward -- had them come out for three different appliances in three different homes; not once could they find something wrong with the appliance. However, the problems still exist (too much water in the dishwater after draining; washer runs too slow; fridge makes a very loud humming noise). Hopefully, others have had a positive experience with them.
