We JUST ordered all the Italian beef sandwich fixin's (including green peppers and Marconi's hot Giardiniera) from Portillo's and had it shipped here!!! Even came with their Italian rolls to bake upon delivery.... OMG it was yummy!
Came to just under $8 a (generous) sandwich. We invited some friends- Chicagoans- and ate like starving tigers on a meat truck.... as they say on the South Side

Even had left-overs for the next day. We will definitely do that again, it was an absolute treat!
Roseland had GREAT italian beef sandwiches in their day and wonderful Italian grocery stores. Taylor Street did and still does(!) too- best bread bakeries in the entire city, serving local grocers and the finest restaurants.
The delicious smells would make your mouth water as soon as you walked into any of those wonderful stores.
That's one thing I DO miss - a great Italian grocery store.
