Picture going INTO a tunnel and meeting a runner around the corner. Not a good idea. There is no place to get out of the way. Pedestrians should stay away from blind curves. As soon as the curve is gone, cross over to face traffic. Works well.
Besides, the tunnels are not that long. When I run in, I usually pick up my speed in and push the hill on the outside. Most of the time carts are a non issue. I've had many make positive comments to me coming out of the Caroline Tunnel going towards Caroline because I usually always beat the carts up the hill. I figure it's best for both of us.

How do you
know "they can see" you??? I just stated above how it takes a few seconds for vision to adjust to the darkness when coming in out of the bright, bright sunlight!!
AND, if you're near the entrance and just ahead of them when they enter on a cart, they have horsepower and they're going to step on the gas to get going again once they've slowed and made the turn. They could be upon you in a split second with the engine power carts have.
