Hi all:

Thanks for your replies. Comcast came out today and determined that I have a bad router. Directly going into our stand alone pc we are getting 50 mbps with Comcast's Blast Plus That's without using the wi fi. With the wi fi on my laptop it is 20 mbps. He suggested a new router but didn't guarantee that my speeds would improve. Hoping that is going to solve the locking screen problem as well. I'll be buying a new router today. Thanks again!
