Petty crimes are everywhere. I'm rather paranoid about crime having been mugged in Miami but I feel completely safe here. Of course you have to use common sense. I always lock my doors, never leave my garage open and unattended, lock car doors whenever I'm shopping, etc.. Also, if someone knocks on my door unannounced I'm super cautious.
