we have been here 5 years and have no permanent edging around our ever-enlarging beds (yes the plants grow and i keep making the beds bigger). manual edging is no big deal, and doing it several times times a year is just fine. concrete curbs tend to act as a dike and stop water flow from leaving the beds....not good for plants. and what happens when your plants grow, and the bed is too small...too bad, you have curbs. i mulch with pine straw, looks lovely, great for the plants, and is bio-friendly.
