Just be careful about using pine straw -- there are frequently ticks in it. That being said, I think pine straw is a dog's second-favorite material for pooping (first being the one neighbor who would really object to a dog using their lawn). The other thing they seem to like is the low-growing ivy-type covering (which is a royal pain to try to clean up).
