The fact is that the hunters' license fees, taxes paid on firearms and ammunition, and additional fees such as admission to wildlife management areas and Duck Stamps are a principal source of funds used to promote the welfare of wildlife.

There was a time, during the Dust Bowl period of the 1930s that the wetlands used by migrating ducks were drying up and disappearing, to the detriment of the duck population. At that time Ducks Unlimited was born; wetland areas were purchased and replenished and the duck population was saved. From that time to the present Ducks Unlimited has been the world leader in wetlands and wildlife preservation. And, who were these people? They were duck hunters. Ironically, perhaps, it is the hunters who did the most to save wildlife.

Hunters owe no apology for pursuing their sport to those who do not have the desire or the capability to hunt, kill and eat their own food rather than relying on slaughterhouses and food preparers for their daily meals.

Non-hunters, who are ill informed and would prefer that no wildlife should ever be harvested seem unaware that overpopulation, particularly of deer, leads to starvation and illness. Overpopulation is often evidenced by the deer getting smaller with each generation. In populated areas it also leads to deer depredations on the yard plantings (gardens, flowers and shrubbery) of homeowners.

The simple fact is that is is quite possible to have overpopulation of wildlife in an area.

Again, no need to apologize for musings about hunting.

LOVE YOUR FIRST PARAGRAPH.........

And actually...........every single subsequent paragraph thereafter.
Especially the last sentence.....which I hope folks take heed of.

Very intelligent post. Well written.

Ducks Unlimited is also big in Vermont......also, we saw a lot of duck hunting in South Dakota...

I still, for the life of me, cannot understand why everyone in TV feels the need to apologize if they say something "different"......who is it they are afraid they are offending?
