I think many who drove their street legal carts on the roadways found out it was a little dangerous.
But to answer your question, Gov. Rick Scott signed the following bill on June 14, 2013
SB 62 Low-speed Vehicles – This bill allows the conversion of a low-speed vehicle to a golf cart by reducing the maximum speed to 20 MPH.
So, they can LEGALLY now be converted back to a regular golf cart.
