Oops... I had my 3 and 5 yr granddaughters all wkend and if we went through a tunnel and didn't honk.. beep beep.. well, let's just say Grandma was scolded !!! So--- Sorry if I hurt your ears..

Funny! Sometimes you just have to beep to keep the little ones happy.
But I think a short beep to let oncoming traffic know there's someone in the tunnel coming at them blind would be helpful and not any more annoying than hearing sirens, mockingbirds, cranes, etc. You'd hardly notice it. And it's the custom in countries with narrow, twisting roads with blind curves. A matter of safety, and if done in a short burst would not bother anyone.
