I really appreciate the suggestion. This was something new to me. Have had softeners in many houses but figured it must be Florida sand. But I checked with a few neighbors and they haven't had the problem.
I may bypass the softener and see if that gets rid of the crud.

Our resin tank was about 4 or 5 years old. The softener company said the chlorine in the water may have caused the deterioration. We also used potassium chloride, which really plays no part in the breakdown of the resin tank. If you can feel the particles, are they smooth? Keep them for your water dude to look at, he'll know by looking at them if they are the resin particles.
Also, check the water tank on the back of the toilet. The resin settles to the bottom and looks like a little sandbar. Sorry you're having a problem. Hope all is well soon. Bypassing the system is a good idea. Hopefully the mystery will be solved and all will be rectified quickly.
