2013 clutch update
Finally we have a cart that starts and runs well. Put a note on the cart during annual tune up. They put on a high speed, heavy duty belt at their cost. That solved half the problem but the startup slippage continued. Called the dealer to complain and insisted on talking to the manager. He was very sympathetic and understanding. This is a big issue for them and one they have been struggling with. Yamaha wiped their hands of the problem and said Villages franchise puts on the high speed gear and modified the cart with big wheels. You changed it, the problem is yours. Villages took our cart back and put in a new clutch and possibly made other adjustments. The improvement is great and the problem resolved. The new cart does not startup as smoothly as our 2008 cart but it starts up OK and it runs much quieter. We love the lower noise level. This has to be an expensive headache for the Villages Yamaha dealer. Based on my experience they will solve the problem if you explain the problem and insist on a fix. I talked to a person who just bought a new cart and they have no problem. Maybe they are just eating the cost of putting on the new belt and clutch from the get go now that they know a soln.
