I still have my mother's china. However, have only used it twice since moving here. Debating whether to get rid of it but I have so little of my parents' things, I'll probably keep it boxed up and just take it out to clean occasionally.
No question that entertaining is much more casual here with lots of pot lucks.
BTW -- When purchasing a pre-owned home, I always open cabinets. Not to see what's in them but to see how things are stored so I have an idea of where to put things when I move in.
