Unfortunately, some people in the Villages are very down on lightning rods. That they "draw lightning" is really nonsense. I have been in the Villages for 3+ years now and in that tme I personally know of two homes that were totally destroyed by lightning and several others that were hit and sustained structual and/or appliance damage - none had rods! Of all the homes that were damaged or destroyed I have never heard of it happening to one protected by lightning rods. They have been used successfuly for more than two centuries. In addition it is crutial to also install an arrestor off your main fuse box because lightning frequently hits transformer installations near our homes and rides the power cables into homes. It is also advisable to install an arrestor on both your phone and cable lines. Lightning is an enigma and the best you can do is to protect your home with every technology available so that you can never reproach yourself for not doing enough. Note that most all Villages buildings are protected by lightning rods.
