We moved here two years ago, also from the Pacific Northwest. We brought with us an 8KW generator that will take care of our entire home in case of an outage. We have used it at least once. We run it about once a month just to keep it in shape. Like a lot of other things, you never know until you need it whether it will be of use. We would suggest bringing it with you. From what we understand, if there is a hurricane or tornado, you could be very glad you did.
