If you are lucky enough to have two competing cable TV providers in your area, you might be able to switch providers and get a lower competitive rate for a year. But the new service provider will likely insist on wrapping you up in a multi-year commitment where the rate rises after 12 months.
Sometimes just the threat of switching will cause the existing service provider to give a customer a special rate if they commit to a year of service.
We have two cable companies in our area. My experience has been that my existing cable provider does not offer a special rate unless I am calling complaining... ready to cancel service. They do it as a last ditch effort to conserve the business.
All of them will try like the devil to sell the entire bundle of services (Cable, Internet, and Phone) because that is how they make the big profits. But if you hang tough in the negotiation and insist you need to reduce your bill, you can probably get a good rate for the two services bundled (internet and cable TV). Just be calm and play the "broken record"... I need to reduce my bill!
