Good workers aren't made on the job. They are raised by parents and taught by teachers who model a caring attitude and work ethic.

I completely agree. And many professionals of all levels are now being given courses on how to interact with others. My daughter teaches a course to third year medical students on bedside manners. And that includes
American expectations.
Manners of any kind are still important. They teach you to behave as if you had some sense, even if you don't.
