I was 22 and working at North State Bank in Amarillo, TX, as the switchboard operator. Someone came running in the front door telling us that she had just heard it on the radio. Our bank president had a radio in his office, turned it on, and confirmed what the lady was saying. He brought it out into the lobby so all could hear.
