You should be able to tighten the bottom of the snowman hole so it won't slip over the sensor. If your pole is too thin, then you could build a little shelf over the sensor, perhaps several winds of duct tape or maybe cut a thick piece of plastic from a detergent bottle. This shelf would then hold up the bottom of the snowman.
Another alternative, instead of using the little snaps they give you to attach the two halves, get some long twist ties. Go thru the bottom holes and then around the pole above the sensor a couple times then thru the other side of the head at its bottom. This would hold the head above the sensor nicely.
