As an avid tennis player I had a diagonsis of a " torn Rotator Cuff". I tried Pt adn cortisone injections ..nothing helped. Finally I went for surgery. When I came out of surgery the Dr told me I have good and bad news for you. I did not have a tear but I did have major bone spurs and If I did not have the surgery when I did, I would have ended up with a "frozen Shoulder"...which is bad news for they would then have to "break" the shoulder joint to regain movement.
OK that was the good news. The bad news was the surgeon had to literally grind down the bone spurs to allow shoulder movement...and that was not a simple process..by that I mean painful in recovery. Recovery was slow but I faithfully went to PT for 4 months (3 Xs a week) and afterwards I was able to enjoy my tennis game which was a very competitive 5.0 game.
I did the surgery as elective for I wanted to get back to playing tennis at the level I was used to.....my problem is I forgot about the knees!!!
The surgery definitley helped, they did not really know the issue until they went in, it will make your quality o life much better. Do it orthoscopic....ie I had 3 small incisions in my shoulder ...I would not let them cut my shoulder...recovery time is much longer.
Good luck!!
