When you said you turned the key nothing happens, it won't, with the charger plugged in, there is a cutoff switch to the key (logic) power. So, if you had the charger plugged in, remove the plug and check the state of charge meter. Dead? if so, the charger will not charge a totally dead battery. you have to get the battery pack up to a certain minimum voltage level. You can jump your batteries with another 48 volt cart with your charger plugged into your cart. As soon as your charger "sees" the higher voltage from the good batteries it will turn on and you can remove the jumpers from the donor cart. If your batteries are really low you will get a big spark when you connect the second lead of your jumpers, so be committed when you connect it, don't pussy foot around. You can also reduce the spark by putting a light bulb in series with one of the jumper leads. If you don't know what I'm talking about, don't try this by yourself, get someone who knows what they're doing to help you.
