Usually a good sign to attack house, is when everything is closed up tight. Could be workers, who have been working in neighborhood, whether be lawn care or something else. Each time they arrive in area, nothing has changed on house they were eyeing. Exterminaters, are another culprit. After they are done, they leave the receipt stuck in door, and it stays there for weeks or months. Good neighbors are good to have, who check home, and pick up notices, papers and other objects that could be a give away. I take care of my neighbors homes on both sides of me. When they are gone, I check house every 4 or 5 days, just to see if anything was disturbed etc
