Glad to see people with problem roofs, are getting taken care of with new.
We had 9 homes in our extended cul de sac area checked out at the same time and it turned out that 3 of the 9 roofs were ok and 6 had defective shingles with all 6 roofs replaced. The 6 roofs were not consecutive with the 3 good roofs interspersed.

So I have to agree when you said "Looks like it was hit or miss." One benefit to those of us with defective shingles is that we now have roofs that are about 6 years newer than our neighbors with good shingles!

I can't help wondering if Owens Corning has learned a lesson in that poor quality control in the manufacturing of the shingles can be (and has been) a costly mistake. Too many business now-a-days take the attitude that it's cheaper to deal with fixing mistakes later than it is to make sure their products are dependable in the first place... frequently at the inconvenience and frustration of consumers!
