A question for all systems that originate a call to either the user or a central station: what mechanism is used to place the call? A land line? Internet? In both cases, these are easily defeated by simply cutting the cables that are readily accessible on the outside of our houses. The only truly secure way to reach you or a central station is via the cellular network. I doubt that the DIY systems have this and I think systems like ADT charge extra for this service. Alarm.com is one system that I am aware of that was designed around this threat and ONLY uses cellular technology to communicate with you and/or a monitoring station.
