All you have to do is look outside the TV bubble at homes near by to quickly see you can get much more house for the money and your cost of living is much less than it will be in TV. No bond or maint. Fees, lower taxes, lower water bills, less amenity fee and championship golf at lower prices.
But as OP has already pointed out, good, bad or otherwise, it's not quite the same lifestyle---in short it's not The Villages---without going into all that TV has to offer. As always, it's all about what you are looking for and what you can afford.
