Just some "food for thought"....

Many cameras are set by default to take HUGE photo files i.e. in mega pixels.
If u r lucky you set the camera for JPEG and so each file will be smaller.
If not, 1500 shots will take up a great deal of media space. You may find yourself burning more CD's/ DVDs than you wanted to. Once on board your laptop you may want to reduce the file size before storing.
The JPEG file extension is preferred for internet use and makes a descent hard print.
You should have software on the laptop for viewing and saving the files in another file format.
If the camera has a cable to connect to the laptop I would use that before pulling the memory card from the camera.

Also, no one knows the true life expectancy of CD, DVD media which are also subject
to heat and light and pen drives can be easily lost.

IMHO you may me in the market for an external drive for your laptop.
