Are you running two anti-virus programs simultaneously? If you are, that's not a very good idea, as it will cause conflicts in your system, (former techie,who knows just enough, to be dangerous).
I have been running MicroSost Security Esentials with MalwareBytes, for several years, with no problems. Both are free and can be downloaded thru the MicroSoft website, I just type in what I need thru Google, and Google makes it happen.
I respectfully disagree with the person who said that if it is free, it leaves a lot to be desired. I previously had a paid McAfee virus protection subscription, and I still got several viruses. Since switching to MSE and MalwareBytes, no problems, I just used these programs and update them weekly, religously.
