Cquick... My husband cut a piece out of a heavy cardboard box and positioned it inside the lamp post light so it blocks the light coming back to the house. We like to sit on our front porch in the summer, and this takes care of the problem of light shining in our eyes.

And no, it doesn't get too hot--just wet every once in a while. we've replaced the cardboard once in two years.
