We looked at a community in the Keys, on the Gulf side around Marathon. Found a house there we liked, but we would have had to chop our first golden into thirds, because there was a 25-lb limit on dog size.
Over on the Gulf side of FL, many of the condominium buildings also have a size limit on dogs. We know because we have house-hunted there. One of our MI friends found a place on the bay in Sarasota that they bought mostly because it was one of the few places they saw while condominium hunting that allowed dogs over a certain size. They had a 70-lb yellow lab.
I would not consider a beagle to be a large breed. But I think OP was referring to the fact that the majority of the dogs you see in TV are of the toy size, or at least 20 lbs. or less. Vis-a-vis that, she might think a beagle mix was considered a larger breed. Just my speculation.
